Native oysters caught using traditional hand and sail power from the Fal estuary, Cornwall
The Flat or Native oyster is the indigenous oyster of the UK, here in Falmouth, Cornwall we have the last sail and oar native fishery in Europe! The oysters are fished without the use of engines as it has for Centuries.
The local Fal fishery supports over 30 traditional oyster boats run by independent fishermen, to keep the fishery sustainable, aside from the prohibition of engines it is also seasonally restricted, running from 1st October to 31st March.
